I was lucky enough to have a small role in fabricating the Star Wars traveling exhibit. By far, the neatest thing I got to do was making the mount for Luke’s cybernetic hand. Not a replica, mind you. It was the actual hand used in the movie.
It was the first time I was able to do proper curatorial work. The whole time I made the mount (which took hours), there was a representative from Lucas Film standing – sometimes literally – at my elbow.
After finishing the mount, I showed it to a friend who said, “You can barely even see it.” “Exactly,” I replied.
By the way, I also made the mount for Chewbacca’s bowcaster.
