A client needed a way to mount these “Portals”, which are paintings done on 9” aluminum disks. Since these pieces are rather small, she wanted a way to make them pop off the wall. Further, since these pieces are often displayed in groups, the mounts needed to be articulated so that the Portals could face in all directions, allowing for a kind of “flower arrangement” display as seen in the last slide.

I designed these little robot arms with a metal disk on the end. The Portals have magnets on the back that attach to these metal disks, which – thanks to the articulation – can be made to point in any direction.

Best part? All the parts for these mounts are off-the-shelf items from McMaster Carr.
