Tanker War
This display was designed to provide a history of the USS Stark and USS Samuel B. Roberts incidents in the Persian Gulf in the second half of the 1980s. Included in the display are two ship models, a fragment of an Exocet missile’s fuselage, and an unexploded Exocet warhead. The story of the Samuel B. Roberts’s collision with a mine is related by then Skipper CMDR Paul Rinn. Another video relates the story of the Stark Incident, and a third video discusses the Exocet missile. The "Stark" button illuminates the plinth, indicates the position of the missile strikes on the ship's hull, locates the attack on the map, and plays the Stark video.
When the "Roberts" button is pressed, the plinth illuminates, a flashing LED indicates where the mine struck the ship, the spot on the map where the incident occurred is indicated, and CMDR Rinn tells the story of the incident.
The "Exocet Missile" button illuminates the warhead and the missile fragment and plays a video describing the missile's construction.
