Geology Hut

The Geology Hut was one of my earliest fabrication projects at the Museum of Science, Boston.

Bird’s eye view from the mezzanine. The floor is actually just a sheet of plywood into which I cut seams. The original design did not include the small wall at the lower left. I added that for structural support.

The GeoHut has mineral and crystal samples, a table where activities can be performed, and reference books. (Excuse the grainy photo.)

Under the Plexiglas cover are maps, geologic cross sections, and other illustrations.

The little table on the left usually had a microscope and thin section slides. On the large table, just in front of the tin can, is one of my geologic cross sections from my time at the University of Georgia, my own little slice of immortality. The plug-in clock is fake; it’s actually a battery-powered clock with a fake cord plugged into a dead outlet.
