Coin Spin
Here is the mechanism for the Coin Spin in the WWI Exhibit, Over There!
We had two coins to display, but we wanted the visitor to see both sides. So I mounted the coins on an axle the visitor could rotate.
Above is the simple mechanism. The light indicators are driven by reed switches. The actuating magnet is in the blue circle, and the switch is mounted in an adjustable housing in the red circle. The adjustable mount allowed me to adjust the switch so that the lights came on at just the right time in the axel’s rotation. A video is below.
